§ P · Privacy What the site does with your visit

As little as possible.
Really.

This site is a personal field journal, not a commercial platform. No ads, no profiles, no cross-site tracking, no revenue model. Visitors are welcome to look along. There is nothing else to learn about you here.

§ P · 02 What I do collect

Anonymous visit statistics via Umami (self-hosted on its own subdomain) and Vercel Web Analytics: which pages are viewed, how often, from which country and with what type of browser. Umami also counts which audio clips get played, so I know which species people listen to. Both are cookieless. No cookies, no IP addresses kept for longer than a few seconds, no link to individuals.

In addition, Cloudflare as a security layer logs requests by default for up to 24 hours. That is only to prevent abuse (DDoS, scraping) and is never linked to any other data.

If you try to sign in via /admin/, you do so with a GitHub account. Only I can reach that; GitHub handles the authentication. Visitors have nothing to do with this.

§ P · 03 What I do not do
  • No advertising trackers (Google Ads, Meta Pixel, etc.)
  • No sale or sharing of data with third parties
  • No profiles, no personalised content
  • No newsletter form (and therefore no email collection)
  • No comment system with accounts or comments database
  • No cookie banner, because there are no cookies to warn you about
§ P · 04 The data itself

The bird, bat, weather and sky data on this site is available under CC BY-NC 4.0. You may use it, you may adapt it, provided you credit EMSN and do not use it commercially. See /en/open-data for all endpoints and how to use them.

The data contains no personal information about visitors. It consists of readings from a garden in Nijverdal, automatically generated by sensors. Recognisable at most to me. A blackbird at 6 a.m. on a Monday morning is a morning for me, and a row in a table for the site.

§ P · 05 Contact
